A study abroad experience can oftentimes be confused as a vacation abroad.  One of the most important aspects of a study abroad experience is for it to be authentic.  Authenticity can include visiting local food spots, trying new cuisine, using the public transport, and building local connections in order to have  a more culturally fulfilling experience. You will learn much more about a country by living authentically, while boosting your travel and local knowledge IQ.  

You may be thinking about studying abroad, but the bigger question is, “where”? This contemplation is understandable, but if you go a step further you can recognize your study abroad choice even greater.  Instead of asking yourself: “Where do I want to study abroad?”, you should ask yourself what you want to do while studying abroad, what your goals are, and what you want to take away from your experience. Students often associate studying abroad with Europe and never consider non-traditional destinations like China.

Please meet our EdOdyssey Peru team! This special group of professionals come from Peru, and they’ve coordinated activities and events to extend the classroom and to get a wider perspective on Peruvian culture. Beyond providing cultural and academic support for students, they encourage students to thrive throughout their time in Peru. Our team works tirelessly with students, who come from different backgrounds, so that all students feel welcome during their time in Peru. 

Some of us are last-minute packers, others have their luggage ready to go two weeks in advance. Regardless of where you fall on the packing spectrum, it can be worth reviewing so that certain items don’t fall between the cracks!  

Studying abroad is one of the most relevant ways to learn about new cultures! Whether you go abroad for a few days, a few weeks, or a semester, there will never be a better time than studying abroad to make the most of out such an immersive experience. Not only will you learn about another culture’s way of life, but you get to experience situations, iconic places, and events firsthand. Who wouldn’t want to make the most of it!
