SPRING 2025 DAY EXCURSIONS
WELCOME!
This spring, as part of the Northeastern University Global Scholars program, we’ve planned five exciting day excursions for you and your peers to help you discover different parts of the Bay Area and immerse yourself in the region’s history and culture.
Each excursion is typically 6-8 hours and includes lunch. Some excursions also include a light breakfast at check-in. Explore options and dates below!
Registration
IMPORTANT NOTE FOR STUDENTS: You may only register for ONE option.
We use a service called GroupCollect for all EdOdyssey registrations. To register, follow the steps below:
Find the trip you want to register for, and click the button below it.
Create a user profile on the GroupCollect page. If you already have an account, log in with your password.
Enter the required information for your trip.
That’s it! You will receive a registration confirmation email.
EXPLORATORIUM OUTING
Saturday January 18, 2025
Get to know your fellow Global Scholars at San Francisco’s iconic Exploratorium! With over 650 interactive exhibits on science, art, and human perception, you’re sure to find something that will not only entertain but also pique your curiosity.

Morning
Depart from campus for San Francisco at 9:30 AM
Visit the Exploratorium museum
Students will split into small groups of five and participate in a digital scavenger hunt
Enjoy lunch anytime between 11:00-2:00 at the museum’s café with a prepaid gift card
Afternoon
Free time to explore and shop at the farmer’s market, housed at the Ferry Building next door
Check-in and depart for campus at 2:15 PM
GOLDEN GATE BRIDGE & MUIR WOODS
Saturday January 25, 2025
Get to know your fellow Global Scholars while exploring some of the San Francisco area’s most popular attractions! Enjoy the beautiful views at the South end of the Golden Gate Bridge followed by an educational visit to Muir Woods National Monument.

Check-in and depart from campus at 8:15 AM
Coffee and breakfast pastries will be provided
Visit the Golden Gate Bridge Welcome Center
View the bridge and take pictures
Cross the Golden Gate Bridge for Muir Woods
Get a brief introduction about the wildlife and plants of the park from a park ranger
Take a hike through Muir Woods in small groups
View the coastal redwood trees up close
Depart Muir Woods for Sausalito
Afternoon
Eat lunch at a participating restaurant in Sausalito
Free time to walk around and shop in Sausalito
Check-in and depart for campus at 3:30 PM
ART AND ARTIST’S ROLES IN URBAN REVITALIZATION
Saturday February 8, 2025
Get to know your fellow cohort members while learning about the role that art and local artists have played in revitalizing Bay Area neighborhoods after they were hit economically, socially, and physically as a result of COVID-19 driving businesses out of the city.

Morning: Get to know the urban landscape of San Francisco post-COVID
Depart from campus at 9 AM
Hear from a local artist and activist, Kaytea, on how the Bay Area’s businesses and neighborhoods have been impacted by COVID, and what she and other artists are now teaming up to do to help revitalize the city one neighborhood at a time
Visit a local artist’s studio near Clement Street to learn about the impacts COVID has has had on this area, and how she and her colleagues have contributed to revitalizing it
Take a guided observation walk around the Clement Street area to see revitalization efforts in action
Afternoon: Lunch and a Tour of The Crucible
Enjoy a group lunch and discussion about current efforts by business owners to revitalize neighborhoods in San Francisco with restaurant owner and local activist, Duncan
Head to Oakland for a guided tour of The Crucible Arts School with Kaytea
Depart for campus at 4 PM
LGBTQ+ CULTURE & HISTORY IN SAN FRANCISCO
Saturday March 29, 2025
Get to know your fellow cohort members while learning about the rich and storied history of LGBTQ+ rights, activism and civil movements in San Francisco over the course of the city’s existence.

Morning: Get to know the Castro District
Depart from campus at 9 AM
Split into two groups
Group A: Go on a guided walking tour of the Castro District with a local LGBTQ civil rights activist
Group B: Have free time to explore the Castro District and take a self-guided tour of the GLBT Museum at 11 AM
Afternoon: Lunch and Further Exploration of the Castro District
Enjoy a group lunch at a locally owned restaurant in the Castro District
Split into two groups after lunch
Group A: Have free time to explore the Castro District and take a self-guided tour of the GLBT Museum at 2:30 PM
Group B: Go on a guided walking tour of the Castro District with a local LGBTQ civil rights activist
Depart for campus at 3:30 PM
EXPLORING ALCATRAZ
Saturday, April 5, 2025
Get to know your fellow Global Scholars while exploring Alcatraz Island! Join us in learning about the prison’s dark history where some of America’s most infamous ex-convicts (like Al Capone and Machine Gun Kelly) were incarcerated.

Check-in and depart from campus at 8:30 AM
Coffee and breakfast pastries will be provided
Take the ferry over to Alcatraz Island
About 15 minutes both ways
Enjoy a brief introduction presentation from a park ranger upon arrival
Take a self-guided audio tour of the prison and island
Afternoon
Take the ferry back from Alcatraz Island
Eat lunch at your choice of any participating restaurants on Pier 39
Free time to walk around and shop on Pier 39
Option to see sea lions with your EdOdyssey guide
Check-in and depart for campus at 3:30 PM
