EE TREK DAYS

ABOUT EXPERIENTIAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP trek days

Northeastern’s Oakland campus resides within one of the most creative and entrepreneurial regions of the country. Within less than an hour from campus, students have unique opportunities to engage with entrepreneurs who identify, define, and create solutions that change the world. Organizations like Google, PayPal, Square, T-Mobile, and Kaiser Permanente call the Bay Area home. The Bay Area is also home to numerous startup companies committed to social justice issues from housing and equitable health care to solar energy solutions and fair-trade practices.

Northeastern’s EE Trek Days are designed to encourage students to explore ways to change the world with their ideas. Northeastern students will have opportunities to engage with organizations throughout the Bay Area. On Trek One, students will visit three unique organizations throughout the day. Visits will range in size and purpose, such as innovative startups, large companies, government organizations, or non-profits. On Trek Two, students will engage with public sector leaders and learn how solutions are developed.

EE Trek Days are required. All first-year students are required to register for and attend both EE Trek Days on October 17-18 (all classes are canceled these days).

Registration for EE Treks Days are filled on a first come, first-served basis.

Learn About Our Trips

Northeastern’s EE Treks are part of Experiential Entrepreneurship programming. We know that every student is not interested in becoming an entrepreneur. That’s okay! Students will gain valuable experiences they can use throughout their academic and future career by engaging with people who have entrepreneurial mindsets. During the Treks, students will practice skills like empathy, identifying your passions, and failing and trying again. Activities will develop the key abilities of critical thinking and creative thinking. Learn and practice communicating your ideas with confidence. Learn and build skills in understanding different points of view, negotiation, and conflict resolution.

Explore the three themes below, then select the Trek that most interests you.

THEME ONE: TECHNOLOGY, ETHICS & CREATIVITY

There will be multiple treks focused on the theme of Technology, Ethics, and Creativity.. Treks will visit different types and sizes of organizations to explore why and how they meet societal needs. You can Trek to companies and investors that focus on start-ups like Kapor Capital, or you can Trek to companies that focus on creating innovative apps like Block/Square, PayPal or Google. You can also choose Treks that will focus on non-profits like Gameheads.

THEME TWO: SUSTAINABILITY

Northeastern has designed multiple treks to organizations focused on sustainability. You can choose from Treks to companies that create products that perform better and are better for the environment like Checkerspot, or companies that are focused on sustainable businesses like GreenBiz. You can also Trek to companies that are focused on sustainable practices like solar energy or emitting zero carbon emissions like RondoEnergy and SunRun. You can also visit non-profit organizations that are focused on sustainable and fair-trade practices like Red Bay Coffee and Farmscape.

THEME THREE: HEALTH & WELL-BEING

Students can also choose to explore organizations who focus on issues related to Health and Wellness. You can Trek to large health care organizations who are committed to offering affordable healthcare and educating people about healthy lifestyles like Kaiser Permanente, or non-profit organizations that focus on quality care through local community clinics like Pair Team and La Clinica.
