Raisa Velazquez Bonet
Hello everyone, my name is Raisa! I started my career in hospitality, but a transformative experience teaching English in Thailand shifted my focus to higher education, where I’ve dedicated myself to supporting international students. I earned a master’s degree in International Higher Education and Intercultural Relations from Lesley University, and I’m currently pursuing a second master’s in Educational Leadership at Santa Clara University.
In my role as Assistant Director for International Students and Scholars, I bring over 6 years of experience in helping students navigate the complexities of studying abroad, ensuring they feel included and supported. My work focuses on creating inclusive environments, fostering cross-cultural understanding, and providing the guidance students need to thrive both academically and personally. I'm passionate about building programs and initiatives that promote diversity, equity, and a sense of belonging within the SCU university community.
A Fun Fact About Raisa:
I’ve traveled to over 20 countries and once spent two years teaching in Thailand. I love exploring new cultures and collecting unique experiences along the way!
Raisa’s Favorite Travel Memory:
One of my favorite travel memories was during my time in Thailand, where I embraced the slower pace of life and immersed myself in the rich local culture. The serene countryside and vibrant spirituality left a lasting impression! More recently, I had a blast exploring Japan with my best friend of over 30 years. It was an incredible experience for us both!
